The Piriformis is a difficult-to-reach, and sometimes difficult to stretch, muscle that runs from your spine, right under the Glute muscle, to the thigh bone. If it begins to push against your sciatic nerve, often due to too much sitting or perhaps after a vigorous run, your back pain might be excruciating. A tight or inflamed piriformis is what is known as piriformis syndrome.kahovka-service

Muscles cross joints and connect bone to bone, and then pull the bones in one direction. If the piriformis muscle is too tight, then it can create a strain on the next joint over – on both sides.

Glute muscles are some of your, eh, biggest muscles – therefore stretching this area is essential for loosening up your body.. If the glutes are tight it puts a strain on the entire body and can have a negative effect on all types of movement. Bending over, walking, lifting your legs and jumping are just a few of the things you might find challenging.

This week, I am sharing a short video (about 4 mins) to teach you how to keep your piriformis and glute muscles stretched, which will in turn, keep you limber, and possibly help prevent future aches and pains in your lower back area.

As you can see from this video, it takes very little effort to slot this into your weekly routine and I am certain your body will benefit greatly from it.

New Term Starts Soon!

We are getting ready to break into a brand new term and before you know it the word ‘school’ and ‘autumn’ will be flooding the conversations at the studio.

Each class starts with a leg series, a bit of work on the mid-back, them work on or with an apparatus, a bit of stretching or more core work, depending on the class. We have 55 minutes of class  consisting of 45 minutes on the beds, 5 minutes floor work and 5 minutes for the all-important relaxing at the end.

We like to keep to the same format for all our classes, so if you are thinking about signing up for the first time, slot in 6pm on Thursday to try a taster class, for €20, in reformer pilates or aerial yoga.

You can phone the studio at (091) 760 – 044 to sign up for the new term (starting Tuesday August 3rd, 2015) or find us on Facebook and keep an eye on what we have happening at the studio.

Thanks lads and lassies and remember…………….
