For many, longevity and the road to a healthier lifestyle can be bumpy. Perhaps you started off by wanting to shed a few extra pounds, or tone and tighten a few wobbly bits, or maybe you were growing tired of not allowing yourself a little ‘me time’ and the stress of it all was getting to you.

I know for me, I rarely think about placing the focus on longevity. Of course, we would all like to live longer, but how often do we make the commitment to reduce stress and remove crap from our diets with the particular goal (longevity) in mind?

Whatever the reason, we are all in this together and share a common goal to live a nutritiously nourished, long and healthy life, allowing our bodies to grow stronger and muscles to lengthen, in our weekly Pilates or Yoga classes.

Last weekend, I read an article in the New York Times about a man called Dan Beuttner. You can find the article here and I highly recommend you read it.

Dan is American, and has written a book (The Blue Zones Solution) that shares 9 lessons on how to live longer, learning from those who have lived the longest. You can have a look at the book here on Amazon. I have ordered a copy and if it is worth sharing then I will leave it at the studio for you to read cover-to-cover!

What I liked about this article is that there is no endorsement or encouragement of fad dieting. A steady dose of healthful eating plus a decent amount of exercise (like Yoga, Inline Skating and Long Walks) is all part of the picture he paints.

After having a read of this article, I was inspired to root around on his website, right here, and found a small sampling of excellent recipes that sound, eh, manageable.

That Ikarian Longevity Bean Stew sounds like something I could live on as the days grow shorter, and nights longer, here in Galway.

So, have a look at the article I linked you to above and see what you think.

Here’s to your health and longevity!

See you at the studio……..
