The importance of meditation and mindfulness

Do you meditate? Do you take time, or make time to sit for a few minutes each day and just be in the now?
I know, it can be damn near impossible to accomplish this – so here is a little video explaining the science behind meditation. I think it is worth giving a whirl….and it might even help the rowdy kids if you get them to meditate with you!
Another article I read recently, (oh the joys of being on holidays with all this pleasure-reading time!), from The Wall Street Journal, does a nice job too, of explaining an even more important benefit of meditation.
” … Self-critical people were significantly kinder and more compassionate toward themselves after practicing lovingkindness meditation compared with a control group, according to a pilot study in Clinical Psychology & Psychotherapy. The technique, rooted in Buddhism, may help to reduce symptoms of depression, the researchers suggest...”
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I am the biggest obstacle in my life, and this has just inspired me to focus a little more on the practice of meditation for a while, to see if I notice a real difference in my life. I’m thinking I might give it a whirl for 30 days – like maybe the month of September. Any takers in this little challenge?
